The entertainment industry does well during a recession, when people are looking for temporary relief from their problems. They look toward music, movies, books and video games to help them escape. Twitter. Twitter... Everyone online seems to be talking about Twitter these days! But what exactly is Twitter?

This is Twitter.com’s official definition:

“Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, often called "tweets" of 140 characters or fewer. These messages are posted to your profile or your blog, sent to your followers, and are searchable on Twitter search.”

It’s pretty simple really. Twitter is a site where you toss out short notes on the web that tell people what you are doing, feeling, thinking right now. It's a great way for busy people to keep in touch with friends and quickly broadcast information about where you are and what you're up to. Twitter is like an instant messaging blog that posts your conversations to the world (although you can also have private conversations.) You only have 140 spaces to write something-- so you have to keep it short.

With Twitter you have the option to link it to your mobile phone or to your instant messenger. This turns Twitter into a powerful mobile communication tool, since you can both send and receive updates on your phone, and stay in touch wherever you are.

What is the point? Well, if you’ve ever been hooked on Facebook, MySpace, email, blogging, one of the instant messaging clients, or even just spent a lot of time texting on your cell phone, you probably get the idea. It is a quick way to stay in touch, meet new people, and have some fun. It is like a mini blog.

Twitter isn’t just for personal use, it also has many applications for business use. It can be used to broadcast your company's latest news and blog posts. Twitter is good for interacting with your customers and employees. It can also enable easy internal group communication, feedback and collaboration.

For the entrepreneur and home worker, Twitter is becoming an important part of business promotion, web marketing, personal branding, and the social networking scene. It can be a great tool to get your messages out to a targeted audience and find new business leads.

There are some great twitter resources and tool out there on the web. One of my favorites is Tweetdeck.com. It organizes your Twitter information and gives your Twitter account an instant messenger style format. Firefox has some great Twitter add-ons. Another good Twitter tool is Tweetlater.com. You can send postdated tweets and auto reply tweets with this. There is also a Twitter download that you can add to your Apple/Mac Dashboard. You can also add twitter feed and wigets to your Facebook, Wordpress and Blogger blogs.

If you are going to be using Twitter to promote your business, here are a few important Twitter Business Tips:

1. Don’t blatantly promote. This is more of a passive promotion media. Blatant promotions turn your audience off.

2. Don’t let it take over and distract you from other important tasks. It’s easy to get too caught up in Twittering and lose track of time.

3. Don’t let it take the place of real communication in your life. Twitter is a communication tool not a communication replacement.

4. Do have fun! Share interesting non-business as well as business related tidbits of information that others might enjoy learning.

Beat The Stay At Home Mom Blues

Screaming kids, never ending laundry, lack of sleep, a hot meal, what's that? Those along with many other perks that go along with being a stay at home mom, (yes that's sarcasm), can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, moody; having the blues.

An issue that often comes up is not feeling appreciated as a stay at home mom. We don't get yearly reviews hearing about what a wonderful job we are doing; a paycheck isn't handed to us for our hard work. What we do get are hugs and kisses, hearing the words I love you or thanks mom. We get to be a kid again, finger paint in the afternoon. All of those perks make me smile and feel happy.

There are many ways to beat the stay at home mom blues. Finding time for yourself is a MUST! Bring out the crayons and coloring books, while they color, go into your room for some quiet, private time. If your child naps, close your eyes too for a while, or take a warm bath or shower. Put in a mid afternoon movie for them and pick up that book or magazine you can't seem to find time for.

Feel good about your choice to stay at home with your kids. Appreciate yourself for all the hard work you put into your job at home. Positive thinking and knowing what a wonderful job you are doing can help keep those blues away. Another way to beat the blues is to have interaction with other moms. Look into finding, or even starting, a group for stay at home moms. The computer is a great resource for researching for your area. Set up play dates, go to the park and start up a conversation with another mom. No one understands what a stay at home mom goes through like another stay at home mom.

Only you can beat the stay at home mom blues. If you really think about it, you have the best job in the world.

The Best Type Of Business For Stay At Home Moms

I’m a work at home mom (WAHM) and I love it! I can re-arrange my schedule to pick the kids up from school when they are sick or take the dog to the groomers on a Tuesday. I can leave for the weekend or even the week on short notice and with little effort (and still be making money!) I work 12-15 hours a week and my income is growing steadily every month. In a few years (or less) my husband will be able to retire from his job because my income will exceed his. Or better yet, he will join me in my business.

I am a work at home mom who is has a network marketing (MLM) business. I am an independent distributor for an awesome company. It has taken me a while to find the right company and the right fit, but now that I have it is all coming together.

I’ve struggled with working from home on the Internet for years, but now I am really succeeding in my business. And I am not so isolated anymore. I have made the greatest group of friends (from all over the world) who are now my business partners.

One of the best parts of being involved in the right network marketing company is having a support system, from encouraging friends to good company training. And a good MLM company should have an easy duplicatible system that is simple for anyone to learn and succeed at.

A network marketing business takes work, don’t let anyone fool you into thinking it doesn’t. It is a real business and it only works if you put effort into it. I tend to be a shy person and a loner, so perhaps it takes me more effort than some, but it’s worth it! I have become a better and happier person because I have stretched myself, and my business has blossomed.

If you are a mom who is looking for a way to earn money at home, be careful. The Internet is full of scams and companies that will only rip you off. Check carefully into any business you enter into. Find a good solid network marketing company that has the best interests of the customers and distributors in mind. Find a company that gives back and doesn’t just take. Find a company that has good solid products that people want and need. If the products are something you can’t find somewhere else, that’s even better. Be sure your company and products are something you can get passionate about and will make the world a better place. Find a company that is a good fit for you.
